Second life is real
Some people don’t get Second Life. I know I didn’t a year ago.
Now I know it’s real. Why? Because it is still about the simplest things that make us human – our desires, dreams and hopes.
Let’s go further then thinking only about the fun and games we can have there and touch on some more serious subjects like business, environment and education.
Let’s talk business first. How much money can your business save if you don’t need a “real” office? If you don’t need to use electricity or cleaning services? If you can prototype for nothing? Advertising agencies like Leo Burnett are already there.
OK, so you’re not a corporation yet. You’re a small business or just a single person with big dreams. Try SL for networking. You can find entrepreneurs, developers, creative and marketing people – all with ambition to create something big.
It’s not surprising that many brands are already involved.
Are the marketing managers and CEO’s of GM, Ford, Coca Cola, Toyota, Sony BMG are wasting time and money? I don’t think so.
And why is the media going nuts for it?
Try these ones for a taste:
New York Times, The age - an interview with SL first millionaire Anshe Chung.
I believe that anyone who’s made one million dollars in a bit more than a year is worth listening to.
Ok, now to the really big issues. Think about it. A world where you don’t need paper, don’t need power and don’t need petrol to do whatever you want. How much can we save in cost to the environment?
Or how much better can we become in providing education?
So, saying that second life isn’t real is like saying that myspace, ebay and youtube isn’t real. It’s like saying that blogs, podcats and the web isn’t real. It’s all real because there are real people behind them.
SL people, money and contacts are as real as everything else you believe is real.
(Every day more then $US500, 000 in real money is spent there)
I think we are sometimes too proud to open our mind to something new.
Don’t be stuck – that’s a trait we’ll all get when were old and tired.
Now you still have the chance to learn new tricks and create something amazing.
