Forget the Rules
Gaining a market for first time narrative content on the mobile phone is tough.
Unless there is already a successful TV series with a strong audience (such as Happy Tree Friends) the concept needs to be so unique that the telcos will do an exclusive deal and heavily promote it to their audience.
Well, that’s what Jim Shomos and Paul Baiguerra managed to do with “Forget the Rules” - a comedy/drama about three housemates, living in Melbourne – listen to an interview with them in our podcast.
Will it catch on?
If Forget the Rules is just another 20-something comedy/drama I’m not convinced.
There are plenty of those on TV with a stronger cast members (in most cases), mass market reach and are free to watch on the high impact format of the television screen.
However, Shomos and Baiguerra have been clever in their conceptual planning for the series and are offering the audience the chance to choose how the final episode will finish as well as ploys such as inviting audience members to submitting their photo to be used as a props in the show.
With the show aired on Channel V, on the web and on 3 phones, it will be interesting to see how will it do.
